WORK OF Y.W.C.A.

DECISIONS AT CONVENTION

TRAINING OF SECRETARIES

au v or ! executive committee of the I.W.C.A. was empowered to proceed with plans for a training scheme zor secretaries at the sixth triennial convention of the association, concluded recently in Dujiedin. It is proposed to provide thrce-montlily periods of training for inexperienced secretaries and short refresher courses for experienced workers. The Auckland branch of the association was represented at the convention by 12 delegates.

To challenge and retain the interest of girls aged between 15 and 17 years the convention recommended that the of citizenship should be emphasised in programmes provided by the association, Recreation activities, it was considered, should be competitive only to stimulate the interest and enjoyment of those taking part. The holding of regional conferences and tournaments was approved. It was also recommended that activities arranged for girls aged 14 years and under should not bo held during evening' hours.

Realising that the business woman of to-day desires that her leisure time should not merely be pleasantly occupied. the convention considered that the Business and Professional Women's Clubs within the association should make public service to the community a definite objective. The convention decided to remind all authoritative persons within the association of their responsibility to discover suitable local recruits for the national service of the Y.W.C.A.
