VETERANS' HOME
. NEED FOR REPAIRS DETERIORATION OF SECTIONS Attention to deterioration of sections of. the Veterans' Home was drawn in a report from the home committee to the Auckland Provincial Patriotic and War Relief Association at the quarterly meeting of the executive yesterday. It was stated that repairs and painting would probably cost £IOOO. "This includes extensive repairs on the ground floor, as the condition of the timber is not good, treatment of parts of the woodwork which is more or less affected with borer with a suitable preventive preparation, and painting the exterior of the building must also be considered," stated the report. "The home was last painted in 1930 and proper maintenance of the building, which is of wood throughout, is desirable." It was stated that the architect considered that the foundation plates and joists needed attention and that parts of the ground floor woodwork had been extensively attacked by borer. The upper part of the building was in capital repair. Sir Henry Horton said this was only to be expected in an old building, where the wood needed some attention every year. . s ,
The veterans' home committee was authorised to proceed wj£h the necessary steps to maintain the building in proper repair after a visit of inspection had been made.
