PENSIONS PLAN

Sir,— Kindly permit me space to give mv views on Mr. Justin M. Power b address in Wednesday's Herald. I am a young married woman with a small family, "and my husband and I will endeavour to save enough money to provide for us in our old age, but I cannot share Mr. Power's view by objecting to payments to the proposed superannuation scheme. Surely the State and the younger people have a definite duty toward these old age pensioners who have helped to build this country. 1 am sure the shirkers and thriftless people (mentioned by Mr. Power) the scheme will breed will be comparatively few. Mr. Power has no doubt in his estimation overlooked the fact that most men marry, and that their wives would therefore be eligible for this increased sum of 30s also. Surely the younger man would not begrudge _ the small weekly amount out of his wages to know that both he and his wife would bi» provided for in old age if necessary. What about the old people who would receiva extra benefits as soon as the legislation conies into force.' I for one am proud to know we can help them in this small way, and I wish the Labour Government every success. Unselfish.
