MARSDEN
Sir,—Your leading article on Marsden was marked with eloquence and restraint. Those, who' are at all read in the archives of this country will join in paying tribute to the justice and adequacy of the leader. This plain and unadorned Anglican chaplain held the Kingdom of -pie Maori heart in his hand. If New Zealand wanted such a thing as a patron saint, the man who planted the Cross among cannibals, and who incidentally is father both of sheep farming and agriculture here, and who died at Paramatta with "New Zealand" on his lips, is without rival in his claim to our honour. J. J. North.
