NEW ZEALAND TEAM

SELECTION OF PLAYERS COMING AUSTRALIAN TOUR Details of tho Now Zealand Rugby League team's tonr to AustraUa last evening by transtasman telephony, w „ n . .' J Redwood, president of New Zealand Rugby League, collaborated with Mr. H. u. Miller, secretary of tho Australian Rugby League board of control in Sjdney. Subse quently, Mr. Redwood stated that the itinerary of the tour was not at all satisfactory to New Zealand, although it was agreed that tho team would leave Auckland on Tuesday. May 31. Tho Australian board of control advised that interstate matches would be played in Sydney on Juno 11 and 13, which dates New Zealand desired, and ho suggested June 25 as the date ol the opening gamo in Sydnoy. Mr. Redwood said that an alternative itinerary had been submitted by cablegram late yesterday, and this provided for matches ill country districts beforo playing in Sydney. A lengthy discussion followed by the committee, and it was decided to call a special meeting upon receipt of the* result of tho telephone discussion. The question of selectors for tho -North and South Island representatives revealed that there was a difference of opinion as to whether there should bo one or three selectors for each island. In moving a resolution that the North Island have three selectors, Mr. W. J. Davidson expressed the opinir.n that Auckland had not been fully represented by its strength as compared with other leagues, and he thought that one of tho North Island selectors should come directly from Auckland. Tho task is a big one, he fiaid, and concentration should be placed where the code was undoubtedly strong. Mr. R. Doble also supported this view, and added that Auckland was in a position to nominate a capablo selector. Mr. A. Tremain snpported the motion, provided each North Island league had tho opportunity of nominating a direct selector. Mr. W. J. Taj lor said a solo selector had in the past given every satisfaction, and this view was supported by two other delegates. Tho appointment of three selectors was eventually agreed to. but it was decided to appoint one selector for the South Island, and to call for nominations for all positions immediately. *

Mr. Redwood said the appointment of selectors for the New Zealand team to Australia would be made at the next meetinsr. Applications for affiliation were granted to the Wellington and Inangahua leagues.
