POPULAR MINISTER
FAREWELL FUNCTION REV. E. D. PATCHETT'S SERVICE Tributes to the work of the Rev. E. D. Patchett, of Epsom Methodist Church, who was recently appointed to New Plymouth, were paid at a large gathering in the Epsom Church this week, when Mr. and Mrs. Patchett were extended a farewell. The gathering included members of the congregation, ministers and representatives of other churches and various social organisations. Mr. W. E. Burley, circuit steward, presided. Eulogistic reference was made to Mr. Patchctt's successful seven years' ministry at Epsom and to the esteem in which Mr. and Mrs. Patchett were held by their largo congregation. Special reference was made to Mr. Patchctt's outstanding services as superintendent minister of the circuit and to his activities as district chairman. The Rev. F. J. Parker and the Rev. W. Walker, associate ministers, expressed their regret at the departure of their colleague and spoke of the happy relations that had s hvavs existed between him and the other ministers of the circuit. Mr. Burley presented Mr. and Mrs. Patchett with a cheque for a substantial amount in recognition of the splendid service they had given and as a token of esteem. The Rev J. L. Litt presented a book to Mr. Patchett on behalf of the ministers with whom he had been associated in connection with religious instruction in schools. Mr. and Mrs. Patchett, in returning thanks, referred to the leys! cooperation and affection they had always received.
