STRUCK BY GIRDER

BRIDGE WORKER INJURED [BY TEI.EGRAPII —OWN CORRESPONDENT] GISBORNE, Thursday A fracture of the leg was suffered by Mr. John E. Evans, aged 51, when engaged in assembling a large steel girder for the Waipaoa River Bridge at Kaitaratahi. With several other men, Mr. Evans was working in an assembly shop near the site of the bridge. A heavy plate, measuring 40ft. by 4ft., was _ being lifted by block and tackle when it carried awav suddenly, and in falling struck Mr. Evans on the leg below the knee.

The injured man was removed to the Cook Hospital.
