DEATHS INCREASE
AUCKLAND STATISTICS FIGURES FOR THE QUARTER MORE BIRTHS AND MARRIAGES While tlie vital statistics for the f;rst quarter of tlio year show increases for births, marriages and deaths, the increase in the number of deaths Mas the greatest. There were 481 deaths registered in the first quarter of last .vear, but the number was 583 for the first quarter of the present year, an increase of 102. There were 44 more deaths in March, 1938, than in the corresponding month last year, the figures being 203 and 159 respectively. There were 239 births registered in Auckland last month, against 250 for the same period last year, a decrease of 11. There were 723 births registered for the quarter, 4S more than in the first quarter last year. In the first quarter of 1937, 740 marriage notices were issued, the figures for the same period this year showing nn increase of 11. Last month 307 marriages were registered, an increase of seven on March of last year. Of the marriages registered during the first quarter of this year, IGo were performed by the registrar, an increase of 35 on the figures for the corresponding period last year. Last month, 58 marriages were performed by the registrar, the figures for March, 1937, being 55.
MORE BIRTHS IN HAMILTON DECLINE IN MARRIAGES [from our own correspondent] HAMILTON, Thursday Fourteen more births were registered in Hamilton in Match than for the same month last year, the figures being 56 for 1938 and 42 for 1937. There were .'36 deaths, compared with 29 in March last year, and 26 marriages, compared with 41.
