CLAY-BIRD SHOOTING
METROPOLITAN GUN CLUB HANDICAP MATCHES DECIDED The Metropolitan Gun Club held a series of open handicap clay target matches on its grounds at Mangere. There was a large gathering of shooters, representative of all Auckland provincial clubs. Results were as follows: I'ir.st Twenty-one Bird Target Match, £SO. —-M. Pratt (20yds), Otorohanga, and E. C. Ihomasen (14yds), Waitakarurn, secured the possible and divided first and second prizes. The following broke 20 each and divided third and fourth prizes:—L. F. Ramsey (Myds), Metropolitan, C. Benton (14yds), E. Benton (J3yds), W. H. Holmes (12ydS7, Otorohanga; J. McMullan (16yds), Morrinsville. Second Twenty-one Bird Match, £SO. —Five shooters broke the possible of 21 and divided the stake. They were: M. Pratt (21yds), (J. Benton (1-lyds), W. 11. Holmes (12yds), Otorohanga; G. Bretherton (17yds), Taumarunui; W. J. iurner (10yds), Metropolitan. The following secured 20 breaks:—!). I'. .North (•-Hyds), Whangarei; E. C. Thomasen (15yds), Waitakaruru; K. Groome (22yds), Otane. -len larget Sweepstake.—The stake was divided by seven shooters, all securing the possible, as follows:—E. C. Thomasen (15yds), E. Groome (22yds), L. Maher U'Jyds), Putaf 1- F-,Ramsey (16yds), G. Bretherton (lbyds), C. AVebbcr (15yds), Morrinsville: C. Benton (15yds). Seven Target Gimcrack.—Good shooting characterised this match, six competitors breaking: the possible. They were: L. F. Ramsey (13-20 yds), L. Maher (15-27 yds), A. V. Wright (12-24 yds), G. F. Keene (V_>21yds), W. 11. Holmes (11-23 yds), C. Benton (12-24 yds). Five Pairs Double Rise.—This was won outright by C. Benton (12yds). with the possible. M. Pratt (17yds) and D. P. North (17yds) secured nine each. Second Day.—2l-bird target match, £SO: E. C. Thomasen (15yds), .C. Benton (15yds), F. H. McFarlane (12yds), Cambridge, each broke the possible. Fourth prize was divided ( by three shooters, who each broke 20, as follows: D. P. North (21yds), C. Webber (15yds), J. McMullan (16yds). Trophy Match, £ls 15s.—E. Monteith (Ilyds) and C. Benton (16yds) both secured the possible of 15, Monteith winning on the fifth round of the shoot-off. L. F. Ramsey (16yds), E. J. Schofield (Myds), A. J. Hanigan (15yds) each broke 11 birds. First Ten-bird Target Sweepstake.—The stake was divided by seven shooters, all with the possible. They were: D. P. North (2tyds), A. J. Hanigan (15yds), C. Benton (16yds), E. C. Thomasen (16yds). L. Maher (10yds), C. Webber (15yds), F. J. Hazard (13yds). Second Ten-bird Target Sweepstake.—L. F. ; Ramsey (16yds), R. H. Bartley (15yds), J.; McMullan (16yds), C. Benton (16yds), tied \ with the possible. Five Pairs Double Rise.—A. E. Robinson. I R. G. White, E. Monteith, tied with eight breaks. Seven breaks were secured by D. P. North and E. Groome (17yds). Seven Target Oimcrack.—This was divided by A. TTanigati (12-24yds> and D. P. North j (17-20 yds), with tho possible. Final Gimcrack.—L. Maher (Ifi-28yds) and L. F. Ramsey (14-24 yds) tied with six breaks out of a possible seven.
