ADRIFT IN ARCTIC

RUSSIAN SCIENTISTS BEARS KILLED FOR FOOD LONDON. Feb. 11 A message from Moscow states that three polar bears killed when the coast of Greenland was sighted on February 8 made a addition to the larder of the four Russian scientists who are adrift on an ice-floo in the Arctic.

This was revealed by M. Pa pan in in a radio message. He also said that when the storm ripped their tent they were undaunted. "We buiLt a little snowhouse and have settled in quite well. We have now set up the radio on a new site. Wo are drifting in eight of the coast of Greenland."

Three Soviet ice-breakers are now quite close to the ice-floe. The Taimyr had a radio telephone talk with the scientists on Wednesday. The Daily Telegraph's Oslo correspondent says the speed of tho drift of the floe is 30 miles daily. This upset the plans for the rescue of the party. It is believed that they must remain on the ice-field until they reach navigable waters where ships can approach thein safely.

Another message from Oslo states that the Norwegian Government has ordered the cruiser Fridtjof Nansen to take part in the search for the scientists.

The ice-breaker Jennak has left Leningrad carrying an autogiro for an attempt to rescue the scientists. It is hoped to laud the autogiro on tho floe.
