LABOUR RETAINS SEAT
PONTYPRIDD BY-ELECTION WOMAN CANDIDATE DEFEATED (Recoivcd February 13, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, Feb. 13 The Pontypridd Parliamentary byelection following the death of the Labour member, Mr. D. L. Davies, resulted in the Labour Party retailing the seat. Details arc:— \ Votes Arthur Pearson (L.) . . 22*159 Lady Rhys* "Williams (Lib.) 14,810 Majority for Labour .. 7,315) There has been no election for the Pontypridd seat since October, 1931, tho lato Mr. Davies, who was first elected.in March of that year, being returned unopposed in 1935. At Ibhe October election he was returned with a majority of 7814 over his Liberal opponent, Mr. B. Acworth.
