The airport was communicated with and an aeroplane was sent out to search. A constable rushed to the harbour and in the Harbour Board's - pilot launch set out to search.
The aeroplane observer could at first discover only two fishing boats, but later saw a log floating in the sea with a branch protruding.' He concluded that this had giwn rise to the report,. so he intercepted the:specding Harbour Board launch and dropped a note advising the constable that no boy drifting in a canoe was- to be found.
The launch turned back to the harbour and the aeroplane returned to the airport. The rumour \*as so definite that even the name of the boy was given, but no boy was reported missing.
