DAILY AVERAGE : EXCEEDS 72,000 A certificate, by two leading firms of "public accountants and auditors, of the circulation of the New Zealand Herald during last year is. published to-day. It shows an average net paid circulation in excess of 72,000 for the 12 months ended December 31, 1937. "Net paid circulation" comprises onlv copies actually sold and is exclusive of all free issues, staff and service copies, unsold and returned copies. The. certified number has been ascertained according to the formula approved bv the Newspaper ProS prietors' Association and the -Association of New Zealand Advertisers, i With a circulation in excess of 72,000 the Hkrald maintains the leading position among the daily newspapers i in New Zealand. Over a long period of years, the proprietors of the journal have published annual statements, which have provided a complete record i ( ,f the expanding circulation of the I Herald.

The certificates are always based upon the complete records for 12 months, so.that any temporary variations are placed in their proper proportion.? to the year's experience and the published figure is a conservative statement of the number of copies actually sold.
