DOMINION AWARD THIS YEAR TRIP ABROAD FOR STUDENT The Auckland Society of Arts lias issued a preliminary announcement that a Carnegie travelling scholarship mil be Awarded this year to a New Zealand student of exceptional promise in any one of the creative arts, preferably painting. A grant for the establishment of a scholarship to assist Dominion students from time to time had been made some two years ago by the Carnegie Corporation of New York, which appointed the council of the Auckland Society of Arts as trustees, said the secretary, Air. W. Laird Thomson, yesterday. The money had been given on the condition that the society provided a pound for pound subsidy. This subsidy, added Mr. Thomson, was being contributed partly from the funds of the society and partly from donations. Although- some donations had already been received, it was hopped that others would soon be made.
