Eleven of those art unions were held and the gross sales amounted to £224,657; commission on sales amounted to £33,698; expenses, to £32,537; prizes, to £55,000; net proceeds, to £103,421; and lottery dutj', to £22,465. Of tho net profit of £80.956, £66,850 was allocated for tho relief of distress. This makes a total of £235,000 made available during tho past four and a-half years from tho art unions to the various mayoral and other recognised central funds established for the relief of distress.
