FOUR YEARS IN PRISON
FORGERY OF BANK NOTES ACCUSED'S CAREER OF CRIME [BY TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION"] "WELLINGTON, Tuesday Found guilty in the Supremo Court to-day on two charges of forging Reservo Bank £5 notes. Charles Alfred Remmers, carpenter and labourer, aged 49, was sentenced by Mr. Justice Reed to four years' imprisonment with hard labour. The Crown prosecutor, Mr. W. H. Cunningham, called 16 witnesses, whoso evidence was concluded yesterday. Tho accused conducted his own defence and addressed tho jury for 40 minutes. Ho said that all his actions wero those of a man with an innocent mind intent on assisting a friend printing Christmas cards. "You seem to have decided to follow a career of crime," said His Honor. "What is worse, you led your son into it by getting him to assist you."
