ELLERSLIE WORK

GALLIO'S GOOD SEVEN SOUND ROUND BY JONATHAN KILTOWYN GOES STEADILY

A solid round by Jonathan and a good seven furlongs by Gallio were features of the training at Ellerslie yesterday, when tho course proper, with the poles 50ft. out, was available for galloping. The No. 3 grass was also open and the jumpers had thy use of the hurdles in the middle. The going was fast. On the course proper Kelly (Gilchrist) ran six furlongs in 1.19 3-5. He was assisted over the last half-mile by Captain Bruce (Wiggins) in 52 l-5s and was in front of his companion at the end. Kel\y came through hie recent racing in good style and should bo ready for a solid effort when next produced. After running the first three furlongs in 37 4-5s and the first half-mile in 50 l-ss, Gallio (Goulsbro) completed seven furlongs in 1.32 3t5. It was an attractive effort and drew further attention to his prospects at Avondale, where ho will probably start a good favourite for the King George Handicap. Grand Dance (Tremain) and Jolly Broney (Carter) began slowly from the half-mile to run home in 55 4-ss, the last three furlongs in 38 4-ss. Grand Dance showed more dash than usual and Jolly Broney worked creditably for one of her class.

Sprint by Te Hero Te Hero. (Goulsbro) impressed more 'than Silver Cloud (Manson) over half a mile in 51s. Te Hero, who shaped well in tho two-year-old parade at tho Pakuranga Hunt meeting, is to have his first race in the Juvenile Handicap at Avondale to-morrow and should give a good account of himself. High Star (Vaughan) beat Aero Queen (Wiggins) over six furlongs in 1.22 1-5, the last half-mile in 54 2-ss. Land Girl ( Wiggins) and My Money (Tremain) placed five furlongs behind in 1.6 4-5. Suleiman (Goulsbro) was in front or Ohmaha (Murray) at the completion of six furlongs in 1.21 2-5, tho last three in 41 2-ss. Suleiman, who is a halfbrother, by Acre, to Namakia, shaped well and looks a likely novice. , Windcress (Stewart) beat 1 oter s Pence (It. J. Fearn) over three furlongs' in' 38 4-ss. Windcress possesses a useful turn of speed. Surella (Coon) and Mundane (Tremain) covered the same ground in 395. They are doing everything required of them satisfactorily. . Te Hai (Manson) was in front ot Tvbalt (Gilchrist) at the completion of six furlongs in 1.20 3-5, the final three in 40 3-ss. Te Hai worked well. Tybalt went lazily, but looks well.

Fersen Beats Rainier Fersen (Vaughan) beat Rainier (Wiggins) over five furlongs in 1.5 2-5. Fersen showed dash iind is in nice order for approaching engagements. Englishinan (Gilchrist) was a shade in front of Siega (Tremain) at the end ot live furlongs in 1.9 3-5, Englishman has been doing well. Ringshot TVaughan) beat Privy Seal (Wiggins) over six furlongs m 1.211-5, the' last half-mile in 53 l-ss. Iheir recent form has been, disappointing. Kiltowvn (Marsh) strode over a round in 2.12 2-5, speeding up over the last six furlongs in 1.22 2-5 and the lastr hajf-mile in 53 * 1-Os. Ho has takigfri no harm from his'recent racing ami should be ready for another solid effort to-morrow. Jonathan (MeTavish) galloped attractively over a round in 2.4 4-5. -He was assisted over the liftit five furlongs bv Bass (Dulieu) in 1.5 4-5 and the hist half-mile occupied 525. Jonathan did his work well and it will not bo surprising if he again roaches the winning list in the near future. Siimint (Watson) led United (Clarke) over four hurdles. Simint. who shaped well at Paeroa. is a ■wrtnnisin.t* jumuer. Backblock '(Olive) led Jalldy K;n o (Turvey) throughout a similar task. Backblock showed dash for a beginner.

TAKANINI TRACK PALUSTRE IN GOOD FORM TRIAL WITH BACHELOR KING The inside grass track was used at Takanini yesterday, and some fast times were recorded. Palustre and Bachelor King went well over half a mile, and Poker Dice was responsible for a smart three furlongs. Roval Passage (Marsh), Gai Hind (McNanghton) and High Sea (Mudford) finished together after running the last six of seven furlongs in 1.24 4-5. They ran the last three in 42 4-ss, and ail could have done better. Feldberg (Stockley) was not doing his best while covering three furlongs m 425. , Nordic Song strode over the last three furlongs of his work at threequarter pace. His stable mate Sir Robin worked at half-pace up. Sir Robin is improving in condition, and it should not be long before lie is ready to tackle more serious work. Disturbed (McNaughton) and Brazilian (Marsh) went easily over half a mile in 53 l-ss, taking 39 3-os over the last threo furlongs. After breakfast. Inquisitor (Bell) and Ivy Willonvx (Jones) ran five furlongs in 1.7 2-5, the last threo in 41 2-ss. Both mjvidens arc improving rapidly in condition, particularly Ivy Willonyx. Flash By (Curwcn) was a couple of lengths ahead of Rnepata (Green) at the end of five furlongs in 1.2. They began from the six furlongs post, and ran the last three in 37 l-ss. Palustre (Curwen), on the inside, was finishing slightly better than Bachelor King (Hatwell) in a bril-liantly-run four- furlongs in 48s. The last threo were run in 365, and both should show up prominently in their engagements at Avondale. j A brilliant three furlongs, from the six to thv three, was recorded by Poker Dice (Curwen), who recorded 35 3-ss. He will probably have his first race at Whangnrei. The three-year-old Romani, who had been racing unsuccessfully in Sydney, returned by the Wanganella on Wednesday, and has rejoined P. E. Pope's team. He lightened up on the trip home a»<2 will require building up. Lady Ruler, Raepata and Nordic Song will be taken to Trentham for the Wellington Racing Club's Spring Meeting by P. E. Pope. Lady Ruler looks a picture nfter her successful outing at Kllerslie last Saturday. The two-year-old Nordic Song has shown an abundance of pace when galloping on the straight, and may show improvement at Trentham, where no turns will be encountered. C. Morse is making arrangements for a trip to Trentham with Parquet, who ran a good second to Besiege in tlv? Normanby Handicap on Monday. Parquet was taken away last winter, but encountered wet tracks, and was unsuccessful. She requires firm going to show hpr best. The following Takanini horses will compete at Avondale to-morrow: —Raepata. ivy Willonyx, Gai Wind, Spearcourt, Palustre, Royal Passage, Flash By and Bachelor King.
