INTRUDER IN OFFICE
ATTEMPT TO OPEN SAFE USE OF EXPLOSIVES An unsuccessful attempt to blow open the safe in the offices of the Mount Wellington Road Board, Panmure, was made by intruders who broke into the building early yesterday morning. The safe resisted the charge, and nothing was taken from the office. An explosion was heard by people living in the vicinity shortly before four o'clock. It was not until the staff arrived several hours later that it was found an attempt had been made to blow open the safe. The intruder entered the building after prising open a window. A similarly unsuccessful attempt to open the safe was made last December. UNSUCCESSFUL SEARCH CITY PREMISES VISITED An intruder who broke into the offices of Mr. Bruce Scott, solicitor, in Winstone's Building, Queen Street, City, at the week-end, made a thorough search of tho premises, but found nothing of value. No attempt was made to open the safe, which contained over £IOO, or either of tho strongrooms. A pane of glass in the door of tho offices was broken by the intruder, who was then able to turn the lock.
