WAIKATO TROTS

' TO-MOEBOW'S FIELDS STRONG LOCAL CONTINGENT MANY WINNERS ENGAGED BY ABAYDOS No fewer than 50 of the 103 horses listed to take part at the trotting meeting at Claudelands to-morrow are trained in the Waikato, so that trainers from that area will be strongly represented. Many horses from the Waikato have raced very successfully and they can be expected to capture a share of the stakes to-morrow. Waikato representatives in the Coronation Cup are Kenworthy, Lady Fame and Our McKinnev, and, in view of his excellent form, Kenworthy is likely to be one of tlio chief fancies. Lady Fame, who has raced well, although at times unluckily, may also receive a good measure of support. In addition to Kenworthy and Our McKinnev, both successful sprinters, King's Play, Manco and Silk Cord will represent Waikato stables in the Kaipake Handicap. King's Play and Silk Cord have performed well and the former may start favourite. Winners engaged in other events are Home Brew, Native Princess, All Special, Derby Lu, Nawton Parrish, Spessiva, Transfer, Our Peggy, Red Frontier, Waskasu, Reception, Roman Chief, Claudelands, Sir Frank and Hearsay. Several others, including Guide Peter, Hori Bingen, Terraplane, Bronte, Compass, Elissa, Hot Point and General Sarsfield, have raced creditably, while Corona Bell did well last season. Epsom Candidates Epsom stables will have 17 candidates, the most discussed being Star Pronto, who is the representative in the leading events. He has won at all distances and is likely to carry the confidence of a large army of admirers. Kewpie's Crest, Handicapper, Tangaroa and Bismuth are winners and are not without prospects in their races. Charteris Bay, Gala Day, Bingen Sun and Win Huon have placed performances to recommend them, while novices who may show improvement include Scrap Iron, Kewpie's Bingen and Petite Jewel. Of the 12 Mangere horses engaged, Great Jewel and Ironside are the hopes in the Coronation Cup and Kaipaki Handicap. Great Jewel won at two miles at Thames, and, although Ironside has not scored this season, he won twice at two miles last term. If back to his best, Ironside would have good prospects in both races. Royal Jewel, Queenie Direct and Stalky have - winning form to recommend them, and the last-named is a useful trotter on soft tracks. Without winning since last May, Great Chum has raced consistently and is a likely saddle proposition. Gloster and Lady Bunker have been placed and are likely to shape well Eyre completes the list and is a novice of promise. Takanini's Quota Takanini trainers have three horses, Kewpie's King, Winaway and King's Guide in the leading events. On form at two miles King's Guide has the best credentials, having won twice at Claudelands. Winaway has performed solidly'over middle distances and may go two miles soundly. Kewpie's King, although beaten' in his races at two miles, should have prospects on a soft track. Vain Lad, Grattan Girl, Levity, Musketeer and Sandusky have fairly recent winning form. Levity, who is in the mile saddle race, won a similar event at the December meeting in 2.11 3-5. .Querida, Worthy Song and Kia Kaha have shown promise by several placed efforts, and Bronze Queen is a likely improver. Of 11 visiting horses, only two, Pampas and Mr. Guy, have failed to win this season. Glorietta and Valdor are the representatives .in "the cup and sprint events, and 011 her latest displays Glorietta should have prospects in both races. Storm Queen, a smart mare, is also in the Kaipaki Handicap. Baron Grand and the trotter Franz Derby should give a good account of themselves and Royal Palm may go gell in saddle and Worthy Member and Unworthy have all won this season.
