EPSOM TRAINING GOOD EFFORTS IN SADDLE ROYAL PALM AND BISMUTH BY ABAYDOS Horses engaged at the Waikato Trotting Club's meeting to-morrow were worked at Epsom yesterday under adverse weather conditions 011 the cinders. The best sprints were recorded by the saddle candidates Royal Palm and Bismuth. Useful tasks were also credited to Scrap Iron, Kewpie's Bingen, Gala Day, Kewpie's Triumph and Bingen Sun. After going about two and a-half furlongs, Gala Day (A. Bryce) was joined by Royal Palm, in saddle, but the latter was slow- in the pick up, and Gala Day was eased. They were together when Royal Palm had completed half a mile in 1.10 and they finished strongly for Royal Palm to complete a mile in 2.17. Royal Palm infused dash into his work and is not without prospects in the Visitors' Handicap. Gala Day trotted very solidly, running the last half in 1.7 3-5.
Bingen Sun (G. Webb) trotted a mile and a-half faultlessly in 3.42, the last half in 1.13. As it was his first serious task since the February meeting;, Bingen Sun's" el Fort was good.
Petite Jewel (W. H. Andrews), Scrap Iron (C. G. Smith) and Pirate's Last (J. Maloney) set out to go a mile and a-quarter but at tho six furlongs, 1.48, Petite Jewel broke and dropped back. Pirate's Last was with Scrap Iron until the final furlong, where the latter forged ahead to win in 2.59. Scrap Iron paced solidly, going the last quarter in 3os. Pirate's Last showed improvement and ran the journey at a 2.21 rate. Petite Jewel was going well until he broke. He displayed speed in going after the leaders, only to break again. Kewpie's Bingen (A. Bryce) worked ten furlongs in 2.59. He was inclined to loaf early, but was going on solidly at the finish.
Kewpie's Crest (J. Cee) was joined by Bismuth, in saddle, after going half a mile, and they were together as Kewpie's* Crest passed the mile in 2.37. Two furlongs from home Bismuth went to tho front to win easily and run his mile in 2.21, the last half in 1.7. Bismuth put plenty of dash into his work. Kewpie's Crest ran 3.45, the last half in 1.8.
Charteris Bay (A. Colo) worked a mile and three furlongs at a 2.26 rate, sprinting the last three resolutely. He bears a muscular appearance. Bingen Bell (.D. O. Jones) trotted the last half of a steady mile and aquarter in 1.10. Star Pronto (B. Dyer) was allotted two useful tasks, but was not overtaxed. It will not bo for lack of condition if be fails to perform well tomorrow.
Solid work was done on the sand by Win Huon, Tangaroa, Real Red, Red Eagle, Dick Redmond, Dainty Lady and Handicapper. A. Bryce's horses, Handicapper. Gala Day and Royal Palm, and 11. McNaughton's candidate, Kewpie's Bingen left yesterday afternoon for Hamilton. GOOD AMERICAN TROTTER PURCHASE BY GORE OWNER Through the agency of Mr. R. A. Smith, the purchase' of Sandydale (2.13), 'he champion three-year-old of last season in America, has been made by Mr. G. Youngson, of Gore. Sandydale won the Championship Stakes run at Lexington last year in 2.1:{, and was got by Abbodale (2.15) from loleen Mc Kinney, by Lord Dewey from Worthetta McKinnev, by McKinne.v from Etta Worthy, by Axworthy. Sandydale has shown individual merit of a high standard, and also has a great inheritance of speed.
