AWAPUNI HORSES

GAY BOY FOR HASTINGS MRS. A. W. McDONALD'S TEAM ARIA TO COMPETE AT OTAKI [bv tki, kohaph—own correspondent] PALMERSTON NORTH, Thursday The heavy rain of the past few days lias made the Awapuni tracks very heavy, and, although conditions are improving, the going was slow this morning. The course proper, 011 which the flags were 011 the extreme outside, was available for galloping. Gay Boy (\V. J. Bronghton) led Hunting Lodge (G. TattersalH throughout a mile in 1.55, the lirst two furlongs in 2Ss and five in 1.14. Gay Boy finished a length in front and went well.

Aria (G. Tattersall) moved freely over five furlongs in 1.6. Aria, who is a novice, will have her next outing at Otaki. Final (Broughton) strode along the back and ran three furlongs comfortably in 43 .'i-ss. Corroboree (R. Chisholm) ran an easy six furlongs in 1.26. The Lord Qucx gelding is to contest the Hack Cup at Hawera. Taillight (J. Chaplin), Glenthawn (Tattersall), and Lady Ina, (Bronghton) finished 111 that order after running five furlongs in 1.7 2-5. Lady Ina worked sluggishly. Glenthawn Was taken over by L. Knapp after the Woodville meeting. The jumpers Tango (W. J. McDowell) and Esteem (Thomson) were associated over a round of the hurdles. Pango jumped a shade the faster and straighter and recorded a pleasing performance.

Tangled, who has again joined L. Knapp's team, Forest Glow and Riotous were put over the double brush fences by W. J. McDowell and all fenced in good style. Tangled returned a little robust, but bears the appearance of having had some work in private.

Petrarch (A. Murray) was sent over seven furlongs and recorded 1.44 1-5. Owing to the local tracks being heavy, Mrs. A. W. McDonald left early for Hastings with Catalogue, Taumau, The Crooner, Bluffer and Manawatu. The team went yesterday by lloat. Bluffer will race on the second day. Manawatu made the trip to undergo treatment to a leg. Gay Boy, who is engaged in the Hawke's Bay Cup, will leave for Hastings to-morrow. He will be joined on the trip by the Woodville horses Mandamus, Haut Monde, King's Lancer and Son and Heir at Woodville. Two other Woodville representatives, Solaria and Colleen Gain, will be at the Hawke's Bay meeting on the opening day, but will be at Hawera on Wednesday. L. Knapp will probably leave for Hawera with his team of jumpers on Monday. Tudor will not make the trip. W. J. Broughton has been engaged for Haut Monde, Black Fox and Top Hat at Hastings on Saturday. G. Tattersall will be on Shani, Padishah and Parry. S. Wilson will be on Catalogue and S. Anderson will have the mount on Gay Boy. C. Thomson may make the trip to' Hastings for the opening day, but he will be at Hawera on Wednesday, when Buaform will be one of his mounts. W. J. McDowell will be associated with L. Knapp's team at Hawera.
