ELLERSLIE TRACK

BY VALSPEAR KILONSA GOES PLEASINGLY ROUND UP AND KING NEPTUNE BY ARCHER A smart half-mile by Valspear, good efforts over six furlongs by Kilonsa, Round Up and King Neptune, and a sound round by Shy, Kelly, Royal Appellant and Master Brierly were features of the training operations at Ellerslie yesterday. The No. 1 grass, where the poles were out 10ft., was available for galloping and provided excellent going. On the grass Mata Hari (Cameron), after running the first furlong in 14 3-ss, went in good style to coipplete five furlongs in 1.5 2-5. She has trained on the right way since recording a first and a second at the recent Takapuna meeting and should give a good account of herself at Te Rapa, although she is now in a position in the weights where she will not find it ea«y. Kilonsa (Wiggins.) hit out nicely over six furlongs in 1.16 2-5, the first three in 38 3-ss. Sho was well out rounding tho turn and finished pleasingly. All has gono well with Kilonsa since sho won tho Wynyard Plate last month and sho should strip very fit at Te Rapa, where her prospects appear rosy. Huntsman's Chorus (Fearn), after covering tho first three in 39 3-ss, completed six furlongs in 1.19 3-5. His rider had a nice hold of him throughout and ho could have improved upon tho time recorded. Luck has not favoured Huntsman's Chorus, but he has never looked better and should have an excellent chance of opening his winning account at Te Rapa. Shy Works Treely Valspear (Jenkins) dashed over half a mile in 49 2-ss, the best of tho morning. Ho is inclined to loaf on the tracks, but his rider gave him a few kicks at tho end and it was a sound gallop with the weight he was carrying. It should not be for lack af condition if Valspear fails in his coming engagements, as F. Stenning has him in great heart. Shy (Dulieu) was in front of Kelly (Gilchrist), Royal Appellant (Cameron) and Master Brierly (Wiggins) at tho conclusion of a round in 1.53 1-5, the last seven furlongs in 1.31 and the last half-mile in 52 l-ss. Shy, who has never been bettor, went with freedom and the way he travelled.with a fair weight;up was pleasing. Kelly, Royal Appellant and Master Brierly were all going well within themselves at the finish and could have done bettor, being out for a good working effort rather than to make time. Round Up (Wiggins) and King Neptune (Green) were associated in a soundly-run six furlongs in 1.16.4-5, the first three in 37 3-ss. Round Up was on the outside and his effort indicated that he is in fine trim for his engagement at Te Rapa to-morrow. King Neptune also worked solidly and should pay his way if he keeps free from the bleeding trouble that affected him after he won at tho summer carnival at Ellerslie. Knight of Australia (Dulieu) was going easily alongside Speed fast (Coon) at the end of a round in 2.3 3-5, the last seven furlongs in 1.40. Toolev Street (Kearns) appeared to bo going easier than Backblock (Coon) at the conclusion of six furlongs in 1.21 1-5, the first three in 39 3-ss. Effort by Gay Broney Gay Broney (Fearn) placed six furlongs behind in 1.18 1-5, being assisted over the last half-mile" by My Money. Gay Broney seems to have benefited bv recent racing, but his form has been disappointing. Ringshot (Gilchrist) encompassed a round in 1.55 3-5, tho lastfour furlongs in 53 3-ss. Droll (Murray) and Marjory Daw (Fearn) covered half a mijo in 53 2-ss. Droll is making satisfactory progress and Marjory Daw, with whom P. Scally has had a good deal of trouble, has been doing better lately. Haputnle (Gilchrist) rail nn easy half-mile in 55 l-ss. Digitalis (Jenkins) covered the same ground in 52 l-ss. Fleetwind (Gilchrist) and High Tea (Murrav) strode over six furlongs in 1.25 3-5. On the two-year-old track White Foam (Gilchrist) sprinted three furlonks in 38 4-ss, finishing in front of Love Parade (Wiggins), who joined her near the two furlongs post. i - AWAPUNI ACTIVITIES CANDIDATES FOR WOODVILLE [by TELEGRAPH —OWN correspondent] PALMERSTON NORTH, Thursday Perfect conditions prevailed at Awapuni this morning, when the Woodville candidates wero given fast work. Waitohu (Chaplin) ran seven furlongs easily in 1.39. Ingenuity was given steady work over a mile. She may have more than an outside chance on Saturday. Alby (Tattersall) was not hurried in. getting to tho end of a milo in 1,55. Severe (Chaplin) led Round Score (Tattersall) in tho early stages running tho first half-mile in 52 2-ss. Tho cup candidate failed to get on terms, Severe being throe lengths clear after taking 1.19 1-5 for tho full six furlongs. Symcony (Mansfield) ran half-a-mile in 1.4'3-5. Wildflowor (Tattersall) drew away from Aurora's Love (Mansfield) to run half-a-milo in 1.4 1-5. Corroboree (CliisholinV wrested the load from Taumau (P. Rae) at the end of throe furlongs in 38s to complete a seven furlongs' task in 1.32 1-5. Catalogue (Chaplin) showed his old brilliance by completing six furlongs in 1.18 2-5, tne first four in 525. Pango (Mansfield) beat Taillight (Tattersall) over seven furlongs in 1.31 2-5, the first half-mile in 50 4-ss. It was an excellent effort. Orient Dawn (Tattersall) had a slight advantage over Peach King over three furlongs in 38s. Bodyline (J. Pine) recorded 37 2-5s and was doing it well. Chat (Chaplin) and Manawatu (J. Rao) came home their last two furlongs of a six furlongs' task in 275. Additional riding engagements for tho Woodville meeting are:— D. Mansfield, Peach King; J. Chaplin, Waitohu and Antrim Beauty.
