TAKANINI HORSES

THANGILAMBA PLEASES FLOOD TIDE SHOWS DASH SEVEN FURLONGS IN 1.29 3-5 Some interesting training was witnessed at Takanini yesterday, when the outside grass and the plough were in use. Although slight showers fell the previous night, this did not affect the going; The gallops of Flood Tide, Surella and Thangilamba were the items of special interest. Surella (Fergus) ran live furlongs in 1.2J, the last three in 38Js. He finished in his best style and it was an encouraging gallop as he had a good weight. Valamito (Stone) and Ebb and Flow (O'Brien) ran five furlongs in 1.3£, taking 39Js for the last three, with the former about two lengths to the good. Ebb and Flow is rather a lathy sort and has to be patiently handled. A gallop of great interest was that of Flood Tide (Bartle), on the outside, who beat Nun Nicer (O'Brien), Gay Talkie (Stewart), and Con Fuoco (P. Fearn) over seven furlongs in 1.29 3-5. Nun Nicer and Gay Talkie were together in front for the first two furlongs in 255, with Con Fuoco bringing up the rear. At the three furlongs | post Flood Tide had joined the leaders ' in 37 2-ss, and tho first half took 50s, when Con Fuoco was four lengths behind. Flood Tide finished three-quarters of a length in front of Con Fuoco, with Gay Talkie, who appeared to bo | eased over the last lmlf-furlong, three lengths away, and Nun Nicer two lengths behind him. The last threo furlongs were run in 395. Flood Tide's gallop was similar to those he accomplished prior to tho summer meeting at Ellorslic. His condition is excellent. Anion Displays Speed Gay Talkie was having his first serious gallop for some time and acquitted himself well. It is remembered that Nun Nicer did a similar bad gallop 12 months ago, prior to his successes at Te Rnpa and Te Aroha. Con Fuoco displayed his best for some time. Gai Wind ran an easy three furlongs in 43 2-ss. Anion, who lias not been long in active work, did a smart three furlongs in 38s. Ho moved well and pulled up sound. Lady Ruler (Walters) had the two-year-oid Bachelor King (Tinker) as a companion over the first four furlongs of a mile. They ran the first two in 255, four in 50 "l-ss, Lady Ruler going on for the next half in 58 l-ss. Bachelor King did his work very generously and, even with his heavy weight, may be hard to beat at Te Rapa. Min Lu (P. Fearn) and Doric Star (Stewart) were companions in a nice gallop over half a mile in 50 3-ss, finishing together. Thangilamba (Bartle) pleased by running four furlongs in 48 4-ss. She should bo in the fighting line at Te Rapa as long as ( her condition lasts. ' Parquet (Bell), after running the first two in 255, completed five furlongs in 1.4 1-5, the last three in 39 l-ss. She is settling down well. A good display of jumping was given by High Quality (Walters), who ran a mile over three hurdles in 1.51 3-5. He finished about 50 yards ahead of Dark Marble (Stewart), who did not land well. Sprint by Thurwind . A light shower fell during the breakfast interval, but did not affect the going. Thurwind (Wiggins) ran five furlongs in 1.4 3-5, being picked up by Mia Acra (Stone) at the four furlongs. They finished together, running the last three in 38 3-ss. It was a useful effort on the part of Thurwind. Romani (A. Tinker), who is a lazy worker, was beaten by two lengths by Lapidarian (Walters) over three furlongs in 39 2-ss. Lapidarian is by Lapidary—Armutum, and will probably make his first appearance at Pukekohe. His work has been very encouraging. > Another pair who are coming to hand quickly are Sacconi (Curwen) and Trixy (A. Tinker), who ran half a mile* in 51 4-ss, taking 38 2-5s over the concluding three furlongs. Sacconi is a two-vear-old by Surveyor, and much resembles his sire. Trixy is a fine quality filly by Appellant. Among those to do nscful work were a Nightmarch gelding, a Lord Warden filly, a Seigfried gelding, To Poto, War Picture, Miss Lovelock, Benighted. Palustre, Wait and See, Ivy Willonyx, Spearcourt and the British King gelding in W. H. Patterson's stable.

The following Takanini trainers will travel to Te Rapa:—E. Pope, with Lady Ruler, High Quality, Bachelor King, Palustre and Raepata; J. Cruse, with Surella and Thurwind; I. Tucker, with Gay Talkie; W. H. Patterson, tfitli Thangilamba. ahd F. Smith, with Nun Nicer. J. W. Cfithro will take Doric Star for the second day. 0. Morse wijl not be represented at the meeting. A. Tinker has Spearconrt in regular work and is allowing a slight filling on the gelding's knee to disappear before extending him prior to tho Pukekohe meeting. Sacconi. in W. Patterson's charge, and Lapidarian will commence racing at Pukekohe. FRANKLIN RACING CLUB NOMINATIONS CLOSE TO-DAY Nominations for all events at tho Franklin Racing Club's meeting, to be held at Pukekohe on March 6, close today at 5 p.m. with Blomfield and Co., Shortland Street, Auckland, and at 6 p.m. with' the secretary, Mr. W. J. Short, Pukekohe. RICCARTON ACTIVITIES NOCTURNUS JUMPS WELL [BY TELEGHAPII—OWN CORUESrONPENT] CHRISTCHURCfI, Thursday Ridden by R. Jennings, Nocturnns schooled spectacularly when ho jumi)od two brush fences and tho sod wall at Riccarton to-day. He is practically back to racing form and will be among tho fittest steeplechasers when ho has to race in Southland at Easter. He is trained _by A. S. Ellis, who recently took High Speed in hand again with the intention of racing him at Easter. However. High Speed is so burly that lillis is likely to experience difficulty in having him very forward at such an early date. The Trentham trainer H. B. Lorigan paid a hurried visit to Riccarton this week to inspect Roaming for a Wellington sportsman. He duly completed the deal and the gelding is now an inmate of Lorigan's, stable. The price is understood to have been in tho vicinity of 400 guineas. Roaming was one of the most promising hacks about Riccarton for races between seven furlongs and 10 furlongs and may win soon for his rtew owner. ' Sea Pox has been sold to A. Ferguson, of Dunedin, and will he sent south next week. Ho will he trained in future at Wingatui by J. W. Dooley, who has another former member of J. Shaw's team, McHeath, who has been very successful sinco he was purchased by Ferguson. A. E. Ellis has been engaged to ride Flood Tide in the Herries Memorial Cup at Te Aroha.
