SPRINTERS GO WELL GOOD HALF BY BRONZETTE TYBALT BEATS SINKING FUND [BY TELEGRAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT J HAMILTON. Thursday The going was fast at Te Rapa this morning for the final trials of horses engaged at the Waikato Racing Club's Summer Meeting. The flags were out 70ft. from the rails. The best efforts were those of Tybalt, Bronzette, Trilliarch, Winlona, Tosh and Jan Ridd. The first section of A. J. Julian's team worked very early. Light Comedy (Bowden), joined by Star Artist (Goulsbro) at the seven furlongs post, ran once round in 2.15, time on which she could have improved. Sir Tommy (Gilmer) strode over a round in 2.10 2-5. Racette (Winder) and Sandy t Dix (Mclnally) were associated over a round in 2.14. Haille Boy (Vaughan) came home easily from the fivo furlongs in 1.9. Merial (Winder) and Pirate King (Bootsma) kept together ovdr fivo furlongs in 1.8 2-5. Prince Acre (Winder) recorded 1.7. lvilladar (Vaughan) finished in front of Keno (Mclnally) in the same time. There was little between Kilberis (J. McLaughlin) and Sunny Downs (Mclnally) at the completion of a similar trial. Black Man' (Gilmer) and Gloucester (McKenzie) negotiated the distance in ] .8. Tosh (McLaughlin) finished clear of Bryce Street (J. Mclnally) in 1.6 2-5. Trouvaille and Joyzell came home from tho five furlongs peg in 1.7 1-5, while Jan Ridd (Goulsbro) registered 1.6 2-5. • Best Hall-mile Mark's Gift (Thomson), who is improving, accounted for Flying Blonde (Ferguson) over four furlongs in 55 2-os. Forest Acre (McKenzie) was a shade in front of Nuclei (Clifford) in 55 4-os. Forest Acre did his work well. Dark Shadow (McLaughlin), who has improved in appearance, came homo from the half-mile in 54 2-ss. A smart half-mile was credited to Trilliarch (Clifford), who beat Airam (Winder) in 53 3-ss. Trilliarch is improved and should raco well on Saturday. Bronzette (McKenzio) accounted for Cometarium (Gilmer) and Awatea Princess (Long) over half a mile in 52 4-ss. It was a good effort on the part of Bronzette and she appears to be coming right again. Young Paddon (Long) finished in 545. Royal Bachelor (Goulsbro) was doing better than Stormy Weather (Bowden) in 54 2-ss. Strong Seven Furlongs The best gallop over seven furlongs was that of Tybalt (Winder), who was a shade in front of Sinking Fund (McKenzie) in 1.35, the last six furlongs being run in 1.20. Both horses did their work well. Desert Wings ran three furlongs in 38 2-ss. Gay Streak (Goulsbro) was doing better than Vera Acre at the end of seven furlongs in 1.36, the last six being cut out in 1.22 2-5. Curlew (McKenzie) and Stanstead (Gilmer) strode over a round in 2.11 1-5. Raceline (Vaughan) sprinted three furlongs in 38s. - * Winlona (Thomson) accounted .for Maungakaha (O'Zanne) over six fur-' longs in 1.20 2-5, a useful effort, and one which indicated that Winlona is well forward. The only horse to be sprinted on the plough was Pukeko, who covered three furlongs in 425. Calcutta (Day) was schooled over two hurdles along the back and gave a satisfactory display. He has taken no harm from recent efforts and will strip a fit horse for the Frankton Hurdles on Saturday. RETURN OF ROYAL SAXON SUCCESSFUL REAPPEARANCE The return to racing at tho Dunedin meeting of Royal Saxon reopened a chapter of Turf history that seemed to have been closed some, years ago. Royal Saxon has had a remarkable career, but to reappear as a winner after an absence of nearly four years is the most noteworthy aspect of the thirteen-year-old gelding's record. The dam of Royal Saxon, Heath Lass, was foaled in England and she produced Royal Saxon, her first foal, to Saxby in 1923. For several years the gelding raced in the colours of Mr. J. Carter, beginning at three years and continuing for six strenuous seasons, by which time he had compiled an impressive list of 27 \vins, with more than twice as many places. In one year he started 31 times, and his best season was as a five-year-old, when he won ten races. Royal Saxon showed his best form over sprint distances, but he won the Wellington Summer Handicap twice and the D.J.C. St. Andrew's Handicap at a mile and also tho Invercargill Cup and Otago Handicap at a mile and a-quarter. In his eighth year, Royal Saxon was tried as a hurdler and was twice placed. He probably would have won both those races but for his tendency to run about at his obstacles. In tho following winter he was given three runs over steeplechase courses, then ho disappeared from the scone, to reappear at Wingatui last week-end. His triumph proved expensive, however, for ho had carried seven lb. over-weight and he had an additional 17 to carry on the second day, to finish third. Spectators warmly commended his jumping and apparently ho has kept his pace on the flat to an exceptional degreo. He is trained by J. Thistleton at liiverton. ANSWERS TO CORRESPONDENTS " Curious," Te Aroha.—Pogaway won the Herriee Memorial Cup at Te Aroha in 1930, when he carried 8.4 and was ridden by R. W. McTavish. He was third to Jn the Shade and Royal Doulton in 1931 and on the second day that year ho won tho President's Handicjip. H. Goldfinch was injured in a fall from Arikitoa, who was destroyed, in the Piako Hack Handicap at Te Aroha on March 3, 1930. Other horses who fell in the raco wore Grand Tea, Always, Helium and Thurnus. "Inquirer," Hamilton.—As a two-year-old Rerepai won the Cambria Handicap at the Takapuna Jockey Club's Spring Meeting when ridden by S. J. Cammick. The races won by Rerepai as a three-year-old, his rider being given in parentheses in each instance, were as follows: Durie Hack Handicap at Wanganui (K. Voitre), Spring Hack Handicap at Wanganui (K. Voitre), Champion Hack Plate at Avondale (N. R. McKenzie), Metropolitan Handicap at Trentham (W. E. Pino), Railway Handicap at Trentham (S. Wilson), and the Nowmarket Handicap at Pahiatua (B. H.
