SPEED LIMIT SIGNS
TRIBUTE TO AUCKLAND WITHDRAWAL OF CRITICISM "I have been very critical of the Automobile Association, Auckland, on several occasions, and particularly about this. I now publicly withdraw it." This statement was made at a meeting of the Soutji Island Motor Union by Mr. F. W. Johnston when speaking of tlio new speed limit signs.
"I want to retract what I have said in that respect. I am told by motorists who have been up there that tho 30 miles an hour signs are an eye-opened. I want to compliment them on their prescience and on not waiting for local bodies or any one else. They are acting, as Mr. Semple says, as guides, philosophers and friends of tho motoring public."
Other members said that the new notices wore not legally binding until approved in the Gazette. The executive will again ask the Commissioner of Transport for an officer to make an early start in the South Island.
