STORMY CONDITIONS
WEATHER IN THE NORTH FLOODING RISK APPARENT [by telegraph —OWN correspondent] WHANGAREI, Thursday The Whangarei district has experienced heavy rain, which commenced this morning, with ivinds rising to gale force and becoming even stronger this evening. Fruit crops and garden produce have suffered considerably. Very heavy seas are running at the Whangarei Heads and over 2in. of rain has fallen to-day. Keports from country districts are to the effect that streams are rising and that if the rain continues to-night flooding may result, to-morrow. There are still numerous campers at the various seaside resorts to whom the conditions of to-day will prove most, unpleasant. Telephone and telegraph communication between Whangarei and Auckland was interrupted late this afternoon. when a large tree was blown across the lines at Otaika. Communication was restored! late to-night.
