A PEACE GESTURE
Sir, —Nobody believes that making guns, and munitions is the only means of preventing war, but fear of attack keeps every nation armed. If the people of New Zealand want to make a peace gesture they can do so by returning about 20 women members to Parliament at the next elections. We all know that women can work and live like men, but they do not think like men, and the fact that one woman succeeded in getting into Parliament does not prove that the system of election is satisfactory. Men are instinctively combative and exuberant, but women have a keener intuition, and it would be better if there were separate electorates for women candidates, preferably large electorates with a community of interest, such as the four main cities. There are many women well qualified to assist in framing social legislation, and very little extra expense may be involved, as women are quite capable of economy in administration. Tnere may be nothing new in this suggestion, but it seems that some reform is necessary to enable women to render a service from which they are debarred under the present system. F.B.
