IS WOMAN MODERN?
Sir, —Mr. Guntlier may be an authority on international affairs. He should stick to them. - He is out of his depth when attempting to define women. It be interesting to know exactly the extent and nature of his knowledge of English women. Judging by "Kotare's" references, I should imagine it to be a "very superficial matter. His observations certainly are. Any idea of male superiority started with the actuality of greater physical strength. From this grew the myth of a superior sex. To-day this myth stands revealed in its absurdity. But the. legend dies hard with men. It is a matter of mental revolt with women. The more uneducated the type, the longer the mental stagnation' As for the English woman's donning of masculine clothes, has it every occurred to men that comfort and freedom, and not the least desire to ape men, prompts, most likely, most women. John Ersltine "forecasts a very black future unless men begin to assert themselves." Poor dear. It is because of a tragically dark present that women are exerting themselves in a man's world they not only deplore but denounce as a shameful betrayal of civilisation. The writing looms iarge on the wall. And a student of English .women's history reveals an ever-increasing repudiation of the medieval male sex superiority touch. What is more, overwhelming evidence of distinct superiorities increases. The subject of women is too fundamental for men. Superficial deductions are valueless. Mr. Erskine obviously is dated. Mr. Gunther reveals lack of deep observation and historic knowledge of his subject. . " v G. Hamilton Fbaser.
