THE FRENCH LANGUAGE

Sir, —Having read with interest the recent correspondence under this heading, I crave space through your columns to voice my own experience. With the desire of furthering my study of the French nation and its language, I, too, Joined the Auckland French Club. Unlike "Le Pays Basque," I waited nothing like 20 years, but, with four others of similar experience, found it more profitable from an instructive and educational viewpoint to meet privately fortnightly and thus continue with the subject in which we found so much to interest us. It is difficult for mo to reconcile the president's statement that "the French people of Auckland are enthusiastic supporters" of the Auckland French Club, with my own observations. Interested.
