ELLERSLIE TRACK
COURSE PROPER TRIALS SURVOY DEFEATS VALMINT HANDICAP HORSES GO SOLIDLY BY ARCHER The outside of tho course proper, the poles being out 55ft., was available for galloping ut Fllcrslio yesterday and some interesting work was performed. The going was good although easy, and tho weather was fine except for a heavy shower that fell when most of tho work was completed. The two-year-old track and the So. 3 grass were also in use. On the courso proper Little Man (Murray) sprinted three furlongs in 40 3-ss. Little Man is a three-year-old golding by Gainscourt from Symbolism, hence a half-brother to Killashaiulra and Catalani, dam of Hunting Cat, Faleta, Catalogue and Vandyke. Ho lacks aizo and lias been very patiently handled by H. S. Bag by, having had only one ra -e. J{oman Mascot (Goldfinch) went evenly over a mile in 1.57 3-5. Sho is carrying a bright and healthy appearance. Whirlmint (McTavish) and Jewelled Girdle (Holland), after running tho first half-mile in 54 2-ss, completed seven furlongs in 1.37 2-5. They appear to be neno the worse for their recent racing and Whirlmint is to compete at l'aoroa. Kelly (Gilchrist) easily defeated Caliento (Clarke) over five furlongs in 1.7 2-5. The first two furlongs were covered in 26 3-5s and Kelly worked with freedom. Ho is coming on nicely and his good second to Triune at Avondale indicated that a win for him might not bo far distant.
Specdfast (Coon) strode over six furlongs in 1,27 2-5. He is showing improved condition. Haputalo (Gilchrist) and Tin Lap (Clarke) were on terms at the conclusion of tho best three furlongs of the morning in 39 3-ss. Haputale's effort was creditable for a novice and he is not lacking in speed. Landlubber (Vaughan) was well clear of High Star (Clifford) at the conclusion of five furlongs, running the last four in 55 2-ss. Knight of Australia (Foam) completed his work with six furlongs in 1.30. Tybalt (Cameron) placed five furlongs behind in 1.14 1-5. Armacourt's Six Furlongs
Wee Pat (Coon) went lazily over six furlongs in 1.31. Gay Princess and Dialogue ran the last five of six furlongs in 1.11 4-5. Dialogue, a solid type of gelding by Lackham, has built up considerably since coming to Ellerslie. Horowhenua (Koarns), Royal Appellant (Buchanan) and Master Brierly (Gilchrist) were on terms at the conelusion of a round in 2.15 1-5, running tho last seven furlongs in 1.39 and tho last three in 42 l-os. All went in good style and Master Brierly, with a substantial pull iu the weights, was going easiest at the finish. Horowhenua's latest track efforts have been much better than his form in public, which has been disappointing. Royal Appellant and Master Brierly are both doing well and the former should be difficult to boat next time ho is produced. Morning Sun (Cameron) went steadily over five furlongs in 1.10 4-5, and Persian Lad}' (Vaughan) followed over the same distance in 1.9 4-5. Gay Defence (Clifford) ran five furlongs easily in 1.10 2-5. Tooley Street (Kearns) was under restraint while running three furlongs in 42 l-ss. Electric Flash (medium weight) placed seven furlongs behind in 1.48 2-5. Waitaka (Murray) covered half a mile in 56 l-os. Armacourt (Vaughan), after running the first three in 43 l-os, got to the end of six furlongs in 1.25 1-5. Valspear (Murray) reeled off four furlongs in 555. An unnamed gelding by Rossendale (Vaughan) and Vera Acre (Clifford) ran six furlongs in 1.25 3-5. They ran the first three in 41 4-5s and there was little between them at tho finish. Vera Acre is rounding into shape, but will take a little time to become thoroughly attuned. Marjory Daw and Bon Star
Survoy (Vaughan) was responsible for the best six furlongs in finishing slightly in front of Valmins (Clifford) in 1.22. They ran the first three in 39 4-5s and Survoy was always going the stronger in the straight. Survoy's track work has been verv encouraging, but so far he has failed to show the same dash in hi* races.
Marjory Daw (Clifford) and Bon Star (Vaughan) were together throughout half a-mile in 54 3-ss. W. Townsend is steadily working improvement in the condition of Bon Star, who was very gross last season and looks more racy since being added to the list. Fleetwind (L. Dulieu) comfortably accounted for Mountain Breeze (Murray) over five furlongs in 1.10 3-5. Luck has not been with Fleetwind this season, but she appears to be more solid than formerly and her turn should come. Crooning (Clifford) comfortably defeated Valise (Gall) over the final stages of six furlongs in 1.28 1-5. They were not bustled early and Crooning could have done a good deal better. Lord Val (Murray), after running the first half ir 575, completed a mile in 1.52 1-5, going evenly throughout. Ho is in great heart and it should not be for lack of condition if he fails to race prominently in his coming engagements.
i On the No. 3 grass Gar Vaals I (Vaughan) sprinted three furlongs in 40 3-ss. His appearance indicates that he is becoming a little more robust than lie was. Kilonsoa (Vaughan) went nicely over half a mile in 60s. On the two-year-old track Red Lodger (Fearn) covered three furlongs in 'll 2-ss. Hunting Moor (Gilchrist) ran the last two of three furlongs in 27 3-5s and was easing up at the finish. Bowyang, who looks well, and White Foam separately did pace work. Teddy Boy (Williams) led Ruling King (Cradd'ock), All Irish (Wilkinson) and Mountain Bruce (Turvey) over five hurdles in 1.5 2-5. Teddy Boy went in good style and Ije is holding his condition splendidly.
