TAKANINI WORK

MILE BY FLOOD TIDE A SMART FIVE FURLONGS NUN NICER AND VALAMITO Tlio grass track at Takanini was heavy yesterday nftor overnight rain. This wns again unfortunate for trainers, as the going was good on Wednesday, when Disturbed and Highborn ran three furlongs in -30 2-ss. The first to put in an appearance was Flood Tide, who ran a mile in 1.44}, being brought homo over the last half by Mai Do Mcr. Flood Tido, although lie has not raced since the autumn, should bo ready for a good effort in tho Mitchelson Cup. Nun Nicer-and Valamito ran fivo furlongs in 1.5.}, the best of the morning. Nun Nicer has not lost any of his speed, and his companion looks as if ho will win early.

The Acro-Mia Stella gelding did serviceable work, with a good brush up tho straight. He is a good sort. Tho two-year-olds Silver Glow and High Sea did useful work. Both aro shaping up nicely. F,mancipation and Dark Marble did a very even six furlongs, running eacl{ three furlongs in 40s, making 1.20 for tho full distance. These horses should be hard to beat in their respective engagements at Faeroa. Dark Marblo finished slightly the bettor. Thres-Year-Olds Sprint

Aces Up was given lengths start in a gallop over five furlongs with Lap Up, and they finished together in I.lls. It was good work on tho part of tho hurdler, Lap Up.

The three-year-olds Tnovcr and Anion ran five furlongs in 1.6, tlio last three in 40 2-ss. Anion was going slightly the better at tho finish, but both pulled up well. Ebb and Flow was partnered with Lapis Lazuli over half a mile in 54Js. with the latter easily tho better at the finish. Gay Talkie did pace-work on the plough, and has brightened up considerably since racing at Avondale. Lady Ruler had an easy victory over Maori Song while running five furlongs in 1.7 1-5, the last three in 41 3-.ls. The fact that lie kept with Lady Ruler over the first two in 25 3-5 indicates possibilities for Maori Song when he is further advanced. Surella went badly when associated with Royal Passage over five furlongs in 1.6J, and finished many lengths away. Wet ground does not suit Surella, but Royal Passage showed distinct promise. Lady Palma completed her work in by running half a mile in 545. Merry Lap Schools Well

After the breakfast interval Warwick Lad and the Dolatique filly ran five furlongs in 1.10 4-5. They finished together. with the former doing tho better. Tho track was now slower than earlier, owing to heavy rain in tho interval. Warwick Lad is a nice mover. Rothoon was doing better than Precise, tho Te Monanui filly in I. Tucker's stable, at tho end of half a mile in 545. Wait and See and Spearcourt ran an easy six furlongs in 1.25. C. Morse's two-year-olds Elange and Love Parade did pace-work and will probably be sprinted to-morrow. Latharna (J. Brown) and Yarrapir (Taylor) ran an easy six furlongs in 1.27. with the former going tho better at the finish.

An interesting schooling bout was witnessed when Merry Lap (Baker), Lord Willonyx (Fergus) and Survanna (Mcllroy) went about a mile and a-half over four flights of hurdles. Merry Lap soon went to the front and had an easy victory. All jumped in excellent fashion.

High Quality and Choice, a neat filly, ran half a mile in 51 3-ss, the last three in 40 l-ss. Choice is a half-sister to Bunsby Gazo, and the way she beat High Quality was promising.
