OTAKI PROSPECTS

TRENTHAM CANDIDATES ' /' fulojoy and deficit well [BT TEl.EGltArn—own correspondent] !WELLINGTON, Thursday Satisfactory acceptances were received for the spring meeting of tho Otaki Maori Racing Club, to be held on Saturday. Two of the acceptors for the Kapiti Hurdles, .Youssipof and Royal King, are also engaged on the flat, but Youssipof will run ,in the hurdle race. Ho schooled well over four fences at Trentliam this morning and he should make a forward showing. Liar.e looks the best; Trenthamtrained prospect in the Puhi Maiden Plate. She was unlucky at Foxton and the race has done her no harm. She sprinted half a mile-nicely this morning and could have improved on her Kij. Tho Pawnbroker is another Trentliim maiden representative who has improved withj his race at Foxton, where he was out in from; in tho early Biases. He also recorded 50s for his .. half-mile. Problem of, Golden Ridge Galteemore worked over five furlongs with Sety Wrack, the latter going well. She failed at Marton, but the going was dead, and she looks likely to make a better showing 1 at Otaki. However, all the Otaki r.iaiden candidates are likely to find Golden Ridge a difficult opponent. His form at Trentham in July, where he beat all but De Friend, was good. Their chance may come in the fact that he may require a race, as he has not run since then. i The Wanganui Guineas winner Deficit galloped an excellent seven furlongs with Prostration in I.2SJ, the last half-mile in 51£s. It was a very satisfactory effort and indicated that Deficit should a deal of beating in the Hema Te Ao Handicap at Otaki. Prostration is doing well and, with Might and Korero, will remain in the New Zealand Cup after the first acceptance, . Cricket may need a race, but his six furlongs in 1.17 with Revival suggested that he •will not be long in winning. He is engaged in the Kai;ihiku Handicap; seven furlongs, in which Goitel Jill also make her reappearance. She nished well at the end of five furlongs, after a slow first furlong. Sunee May Improve The Hitchalsdn Cup candidate Sunee was better than Seigmund over seven furlongs, finishing strongly, but they rani slowly over the first three. Sunee will have to show up at Otaki if he is worth taking to Ellerslie, but as S. .Wilson will be riding him ie may do so. Seigmund is not engaged at Otaki. He is a big colt who has not filled out to'any extent since last season. Might, who finished lasn in tho Marton Handicap last Saturdpv after showing up in the middle stages, indicated improvement with the race by running ft' ,Jnile in 1.44}, finishing ahead of Korero and Shy, who carried « most weight and was not knocked about. Iwgfft is also engaged in the Ling Memorial Handicap, but he will probably bo found to need more racing yet. /Fulojov worked alone over half a tfiie in 50s and did it well. She has improved with her race at Marton, where she was close to the deadheaters, Laughing Lass and Hunting Lodge, and she promises to run well in the Tuari Handicap. She and Deficit, look the rpost likely of T. R. George's team at Otnki. Windward improved with his race at Foxton sufficiently to cause the supporters of Brazen King some anxiety at Marton, and ho accom plished a satisfactory sevcn-furlong gallop. Nightlass being of no use to h:m. The form Nightlass is jiegligiblo, but Windward worked well and has improved. Iff is in tho Mcma Handicap at Otaki. •8. Simpson has sold Gladium to Mr. C. Blenkhorn, Levin, and he will in his new colours al; Otaki.
