DRAMATIC EVENING

LYCEUM CLUB CIRCLE SOME EXCELLENT ACTING Clever production and excellent acting were features of two one-act plays which wero presented last evening by members of the dramatic circle of the Lyceum Club before a large gathering of members and their friends. The president, Lady Wilson, presided. The first production, a symbolic play, "Death's Garden," adapted from Hans Andersen by Mrs. Brackenbury Latter and produced by Mrs. Culford Bell, was a very poignant play, with wonderfully effective music. The presentation was a thoroughly successful ono and each player was admirably suited to her role. This play, which was presented at the recent festival of the British Drama League in Auckland, has been accepted by the International One-Act Play Theatre for production in England. The first three scenes represented a snowy landscape and the fourth scone, "Death's Garden." The parts were taken by Rona Petty, Eva Northwood, j Marie Rowe, Vena Del La Varis, Barbara Roberts and Edna De Marr. N

At the conclusion of the performance, Lady Wilson, on behalf of the members, presented Mrs. Latter with a bouquet and congratulated her on the success of the play. The second presentation, "A Girl for tho Hall," an amusing farce, was produced by Miss Doreen Saunders and played by members of tho dramatic circlo of tho Victoria League. The parts were cleverly taken by Mrs. V. Usher, Wyn Kent, Mary Pilkington, Peggi Cruickshank, Ruth Chandler, Mar.v Cruickshank, Grace McFlynn and Eileen Thompson. This play hrfd also been presented at the Drama Festival. During an interlude Miss Thorold Clerk on behalf of the executive, members of the club and tb« dramatic circlo. presented Miss Edna Craig, who is leaving shortly for Australia, with a handbag, in appreciation of her services to the club and to the dramatic circle. The incidental music for the plays was provided by Mrs. R. Reed and Miss Ida Lockwood. Songs by Miss Ada Lynn and Mr, Edgar Middleton and child impersonations by Mrs. Lane were also enjoyed.

Supper concluded an interesting and enjoyable evening.
