SWIMMING
EASTERN SUBURBS CLUB GROWTH DURING FIRST YEAR ELECTION OF LIFE MEMBERS Astonishment at the growth of the Eastern Suburbs Amateur Swimming and Life-saving Club in its first year was expressed by the chairman of the Auckland Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association, Mr. T. C. Hobbs-Jones, when speaking at the club's annual meeting. He said the club had been a valuable gain to swimming ■■in Auckland. The extent of its work in encouraging swimming and life-saving among children, as outlined in the annual report, had impressed him very much, and he wished the club continued success. Mr. L. Munro. who presided, congratulated the members, and said the committee was deserving of much praise for its splendid effort.

White. The founders of the club, Messrs. W. 0. Btockloy and G. W. Bell, were elected the first life-members. A vote of thanks for his services as secretary was passed to Mr. Stockley, and it was decided to make him a presentation. WAITEMATA CLUB STRONG FINANCIAL POSITION The large number of members of the Waitemata Amateur Swimming and Life-saving Club present at the annual meeting was complimented by the president, Mr. J. The Tauranga girls' life-saving team were again successful in winning the Walker and Hall trophy for the girls' rescue and resuscitation event. „„ . Riggir, reported that a conference of representatives of swimming clubs was hied at Rotorua last Saturday evening to discuss the formation of a Bav of Plenty centre. A further meeting will be' held at Cambridge on October 3. Mr. W. S. Henderson, of Ro.torua, was authorised t<> represent the Tauranga Club. The meeting recorded its appreciation of the services of Miss R. Patterson, who had been secretary of the club for the past three years and who will be leaving shortly for Auckland.
