FIGURES FOR SEPTEMBER INCREASE IN BIRTHS Marriage is becoming more popular, judging by the Auckland figures for the nine months ended yesterday. During last month. 221 marriages were registered, making 1905 for the nine months of 1936. The figures for thp same periods last year were 173 and 1646. There are still a number of people who prefer to he married at the registry rather than in church. Of the 221 marriages in September, 33 were performed by the registrar. Therp were 25 in September last year. A satisfactory increase in the number of births in Auckland also is indicated in the statistics for the month. A total of 231 was registered in September, compared with 192 for the same month last year. Deaths in September totalled 166, this figure exceeding by one that for September, 1935.
