BAPTIST UNION

ANNUAL ASSEMBLY MEETING NEXT WEEK The annual assembly of the Baptist Union of New Zealand will open on Tuesday at the Baptist Tabernacle. The retiring president, Dr. Charles North, is at present in England, and will be succeeded by the Rev. A. Anstice, who will preside at all the assembly liieetings. Mr. Anstice was the first minister of the Mount Albert Baptist. Church. A large number of delegates from the southern churches is expected to attend the assembly, which will review the various agencies of the union, and give special attention to church extension in the Dominion, and missionary activities in India. The Kav. H. A. Jones, who has recently returned from Eastern Bengal, and Dr. Nola Ivory, .who has been" in charge of the mission hospital for women at Chandpur, will speak at the assembly meetings, and the Rev. I'ovston Brown, who has completed his course at the Baptist College, Remuera, will be designated for missionary service in India. An evening will be devoted to the celebration of the centenary of the birth of Dr. John Clifford, the famous Nonconformist protagonist in the education controversies of 1902 and 1906. Another evening of special interest will be occupied by a programme of negro spirituals sung by an augmented Tabernacle choir.
