WORK ON THE GRASS VERSANT'S SIX FURLONGS MAZIR AND HOROWHENUA Some interesting racing was accomplished at Ellerslie 011 Saturday, when the No. 2 grass was available for galloping. Owing to the heavy going no fast times were recorded. Teddy Boy (Vaughan) went solidly over a round in 1.51 3-5. He is very fit and his prospects in the Kingsland Hurdles on Saturday appear bright. Solas (Cameron) covered six furlongs in 1.24. She displayed signs of lameness 011 pulling up. Kelly (Gilchrist) was too good for Salvar (Coon) and Backblock (Koarns) over five furlongs in 1.7 1-5, the final three taking 425. Kelly is rounding into shape and may be given a race on the second day of the Avondale meeting. High Start (Vaughan) placed six furlongs behind in 1.25 1-5. Ho is improving in condition. Mazir (Manson) and Horowhenua (Kearns) were together at the end of seven furlongs in 1.36 3-5, the last half-mile taking 52 4-ss. Huntsman's Chorus and Mainland were responsible for a pleasing effort over six furlongs in 1.22 4-5, the last three in 41 4-ss. Carshalton (Fergus) ran six furlongs in 1.25 4-5. The unnamed Rossendale gelding placed half-a-mile behind in 55 2-os. After running the first three furlongs in 39 1-os, Versant (Holland) completed six in 1.22 2-5. Survoy (Goldfinch) covered half-a-mile in 545. He is building up in condition. Avondale Oup Horse Te Hai (Manson) worked usefully over a round, but was not after time. All going well he is to contest the Avondale Cup on Saturday. Hope Lass (Sargent) covered six furlongs in 1.23 1-5. She is bearing a bright appearance. Roman Mascot worked easily over a round.. Vera Acre (Sargent) was nob extended while running half-a-mile in 59 l-ss. Ruling King and Adsum were wellclear of Mountain Bruce and Dialogue at the end of a round in 1.57, the last six furlongs taking 1.28 4-o. All Irish (Fergus) jumped four hurdles, giving a satisfactory display for a beginner. . Lord Val (Baker) finished in of Electric Flash (Sharkey) and United (Wilkinson) in a school over four hurdles. Lord Val was responsible for an impressive exhibition and hlectric Flash and United also jumped safely.
