LADIES' TOURNAMENT WIN FOR AUCKLAND TEAM [by telegraph—press association] BLENHEIM, Monday Fine but dull weather prevailed for the second day of tho New Zealand woman's hockey tournament. Tho grounds were heavy as a result of tho play on Saturday, followed by further rain yesterday. The features of to-day's matches were the decisive wins scored by Eastern Southland, Wellington, Canterbury, Marlborough B and Wairarapa. In section A, Otago and Marlborough are undefeated, and it appears the issue lies between them for section honour;!. Canterbury is showing the best form in section B and appears assured of reaching the semi-finals. Eastern and Wellington, on the play to date, are tho strongest in section C. Neither has yet been defeated. To-day's resulja are:— Section A.—Marlborough B, 4, v. Ashburton, O; Otago, 3, v. Southland, 0; Ruahine a bye. Section B.—Canterbury, 7, v. Nelson, 0; Waitarapa, 5, v. Marlborough A, 0; Auckland, 3, v. South Otago, 2. Section C. —Eastern Southland, 9, v. Wanganui, 0; Wellington, 7, v. South Canterbury, 3; Akitio, 3, v. Poverty Bay, 2. WAIKATO BEATS CANTERBURY [ FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT] HAMILTON, Monday Playing at Steele Park this afternoon Waikato hockoy representatives defeated tho touring Canterbury team by 3 goals to 1. The ground was heavy, placing the visitors' fast forWards at a disadvantage. Waikato's score opened with a. penalty goal, and a few minutes later the left wing, Burns, scored from a penalty corner. A strong Canterbury rush followed, Kadcliffe snapping a quick shot past the goalie. In tho second spell the visitors were on the attack for prolonged periods, but the Waikato defence was sound, the goalie, Sinillie, being particularly safe. About halfway through the spell, Waikato penetrated quickly through the centre and T. A. Ewan snapped in a high shot which the goalio could not reach. From then on, Canterbury had a number of shots at goal, but no further score resulted. The Canterbury junior representatives defeated a Waikato junior team by 3 goals to 0, the scorers being E. McCormick (2) and A. Norman. THAMES V. MOUNT EDEN [BY TELEGRAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT] THAMES, Monday The Thamea-Hauraki Hockey Association's teams met Mount Eden teamß at the High School grounds on Saturday. The Thames A team was defeated by 4 goals to 0, Morgan (3) and Clark scoring for the visitors. The Thames B team defeated Mount Eden B by 2 goals to 1. Marshall and Delamore scored for Thames and Millen for the visitors. WHANGAREI ASSOCIATION [from OUR OWN correspondent] WHANGAREI, Monday The final of the country section of the Whangarei Hockey Association men's championship provided a very close contest. Tho two teams in the final, Mata and Mangapai, had drawn the previous Saturday, and in the replay last Saturday again played a drawn game, after an extra 20 minutes had been allowed. For Mata, W. Johns and L. Price scored and Byles and Ormandy scored for Mangapai. On the toss of a coin, Mata won the match. The final of the town section resulted:— Wesley, 2 (Preeble and Wilson), beat United, 1 (H. Patterson). The final of the Gillett Rose Bowl match for the ladies' A teams resulted:—Old Girls, 4 (B. Doel 3, I. Hughes 1), beat Horahora, 2 (E. Richards and N. Hirtzell). The ladies' B match for the M. Baylis Cup resulted:— Portland, 3 (O. Litt 1, Mrs. Cotter 2), beat Kia Ora, 2 (Miss Dickson).

ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL VISIT OF ENGLISH TEAM PROVISIONAL ARRANGEMENTS [BY TELEGRAPH—PBESS ASSOCIATION] WELLINGTON, Monday Arrangements for the visit of an English Association football team to New Zealand next year were advanced a further stage to-night by the decision of the Council of the New Zealand Football .Association to negotiate with Australia to take part of the tour. A cablegram was read from the Football Association, London, agreeing to visit New Zealand in 1937. Provisional arrangements had been made, the message stated, w> leave on the Chitral on April 20. The council adopted the finance committee's recommendation to cable the Australian Association, which is understood to be anxious to take four weeks of the nine weeks' tour. The cost to Australia would be £1520. Mr. Malcolm Fraser's resignation from the council because of pressure of other activities was accepted with regret. . Canterbury was granted permission to play Otago at Dunedin on Saturday for the Football Association Trophy.
