EMPIRE DEFENCE

Sir, —-The years 1936 to 1940 will probably prove to world history whether the British Empire is to go on through the centuries. If the people of the Umpire do not wake up now, and prove that thev are both capable as well as willing to defend the territories they possess, they will not continue to possess them. Universal training for men for defence in its three branches, and for women in their branch of responsibility, should be proclaimed all over the Umpire without any further delay. Surely it is not too much to ask that one evening a week should be given to one's country in order that we may continue to live under the conditions in which we are living. If our Parliament is not to meet until late next year, then a Universal training Bill must be passed this session. One year's delay in this urgent matter may cost us bitter loss. M.A.P.
