COMMENT ON FORM REDOLENT JUMPS BRILLIANTLY [from our own correspondent] DUNEDIN, Saturday For the Waimate Hunt Club's meeting the track was on the soft side but it provided, excellent going for this time of the year. The manner in which Burglar made up lost ground to win the Amateur Cup Steeplechase should make him worthy of note for the future. Redolent gave a brilliant display for a novice when he won the Studholmo Hurdles. Blazon was kept too far out of his ground and might have been more dangerous with an earlier run. Mutus (Songbird—Olga) scored an easy win in the Novice Stakes and promises to prove useful. Bonny Buff proved to be the best of the field for the Hunt Club Cup Steeplechase. Money Mine started iavounto, but did not fence well and alter striking the hurdle in the back stretch, lost a good deal oi ground. Silver Coat started at a short price in the Waihao Handicap and won well, although kept busy in the run home. Mount Va 1 was a little unlucky m not doing better than to score a deadheat with Golden Dart in the Morven Handicap, as he did not get a good run along the back. He was in front a stride past the post. Gay Boa was the best of the moderate lot turned out for the Hunter's Plate, and Queen Dorothy brought an interesting day's sport to a conclusion ; by scoring a comfortable win in the j Waimate Handicap. BALBUS DESTROYED SHOULDER BROKEN ON TRACK [I'ROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT] PALMURSTON NORTH, Saturday Balbus broke his near fore-shoulder after completing a five furlongs gallop with Lavish at Awapuni this morning and was destroyed. Fie went to the lead in the straight, to bo several lengths in front of the two-.vear-old at the post, and it was about 25yds further on that the shoulder snapped. Owned and trained by the former hurdle horseman, C. J. Robinson, Balbus was a foitr-year-old gelding by Lapidarv from Azeeta. He had always shown plentv of speed this season and had displayed improved staving ability, which was in evidence when bo won over a mile and a distance at Dannevirke at. the beginning of the month.
