M)TES ON THE RACING MARSYAS WINS DECISIVELY HUNTER'S MORN SUCCEEDS [by telegraph—OWN correspondent] HASTINGS, Saturday Curie made light of the opposition in the Otane Hurdles. Beau Star had a good lead early, but at the straight entrance Curie and Lord Hereford were the leaders. Curie then went on to win easily from Lord Hereford. Beau Star was a poor third and Sunder was fourth.

Iddo and Black Mngic were supported to short prices in the Okawa Maiden, but victory went to the fourth favourite Marsyas, who jumped out of the barrier briskly and was not headed. Iddo challenged in-the straight, but Marsyas held him easily. Jay Bird was a moderate third and Refulgent was fourth. Steeplechase Contest

The Hawke's Bay Hunt Club Steeplechase was a good race, and the success of Dr. Raymond's representative, Royal Songster, was popular. Vainsborough fell at the lirst fence and Master Turbine, a good jumper, went to the front at the outset, to lead past the stands from Royal Songster and Cotsfield. With a round to go Master Turbine still led, but Royal Shift and Royal Songster were with him, and it was easy to see they would outstay him. f'oval Songster and Royal Shift, fencing finely, raced side by side to the last fence,

where Royal Shift fell. Royal Songster then ran in an easy winner by five lengths from Given, who decisively beat Cotsfield. Master Turbine was fourth. Royal Shift would have won had he jumped the last fence. Wahine Nni scored an all-the-wav win in the Riverslea Handicap. She went to the front early and was allowed to run along at her own pace until the last stages of the contest, when the others made futile ateinpts to overhaul her. Cordon Fails Badly Of the four who lined up for the

gentleman riders' event, the Soutra Hunters' Flat Handicap, Cordon, ridden / by Mr. K. Duncan, was a pronounced favourite, but he failed rather badly, victory going to The Drone, who cam® to the front at the distance, and won decisively. Getting away on terms with the field in the Waitangi Handicap, Hunter's Morn soon reached the front and, running one of his best races, was not afterwards headed. Hunting Star settled dour, in second position and followed Hunter's Morn into the straight, where ho made a good, but unsuccessful, attempt to re;;eh the lender. The first and second horses stood above their opponents. Mata Hari Wins Well Judiciously ridden, Mata Hari won the Tikokino Handicap decisively from Blue Garter. .Mata Hari was taken to the front before reaching the half-mile, and in the run from there her speed was too great for the others. She entered the straight several lengths ahead and passed the winning post clear. I here was a good finish for second, Blue Gar- . ter just heating Slippery and Granvale.
