BAPTIST BIBLE CLASS
ROUND THE WORLD TRIP "A Mystery Trip Round the World" was the title of a novel entertainment arranged by members of the Richmond Baptist Young Women's Bible Class in aid of missionary work in India. A large gathering assembled at the church. This was divided into four groups, each under the leadership of an escort. Each group was then conducted in turn to four houses in the district, representing India, China, Africa and the South Sea Islands. A delightful entertainment followed in each of the countries visited, consisting of native dances and ceremonies, national music, not all of which was tuneful, beautiful displays of curious and decorations peculiar to each country, and Indian and Chinese gods. Bright and varied national costumes worn by the performers were an charm to the beholders. A great deal of entertainment took place, when visitors had to partake of the food of each country. Rice eaten with chopsticks (China), curry and rice (India) and an almost inedible concoction (Africa) did not prove as palatable to most of the visitors as did the oranges and bananas and other delightful faro which they received as representative of the South Sea Islands. Later all the groups gathered in the Sunday School Hall, which had been converted into a Maoriland scene, where the audience was entertained by Maoris in costume singing their well-known songs and performing their poi dances and hakas to the tuneful accompaniment of steel guitars. A grand march followed in which all countries joined, after which Miss E. Newton, leader of the Bible Class, thanked all those who had so willingly given assistance and in any way contributed to the success of the evening. A very enjoyable evening concluded with supper.
