EVENING OF MUSIC

LYCEUM CLUB CIRCLE Members of the music circle of the Lyceum Club listened to a delightful programme of vocal and instrumental numbers arranged last night by Miss Edith Kent at an open evening. There was a large attendance and the lounge looked most attractive and cosy with glowing fires and bowls of brightly coloured wiuter flowers. The president of the club, Mrs. W. H. Parkes. presided. Tilt; programme opened with it pianoforte solo, "Nocturno" (Owen Jensen), played by Mr Owen Jensen, who later gave Prelude in G Minor (Rachmaninov) and "Humoreske." Following were two songs. "Devotion" and "Folk Song'' (Schumann), by Mrs. Chisholm McDowell, who later sang "Marian" (Parry), "Ship of A ready" (Head), and "Love Went a' Riding" (Frank Bridges). The accompaniments were played by Mrs. Hugh Fraser Other items comprised violin solos, "Romance" (Wagner), Waltz (Kreisler), and Polish Dance (Hubay), played by Mrs. Dickson, who was accompanied by Miss Hammond; two songs, "The Virgin's Slumber Song" (Max Reger), and "Song of the Open" (La Forge), by Miss Gwenda Weir, who also gave a duet with Mr. Robert Simmers from Don Giovanni (Mozart). The final numbers were two songs, "Four by the Clock" (Mallinson), and "The Ships of Rea'" (Keel), by Mr Robert Simmers. Supper was served at the conclusion of the programme
