ENTERTAINMENTS

ROXY AND TIVOLI THEATRES A programme consisting of a film of action, " Dangerous Waters," and a musical production, " Don't Get Personal," will commence at the ltoxy aiul Tivoli Theatres to-day. Jack Holt and Robert Armstrong have the prominent roles in the first film, a tale of adventure at sea. Fire, intrigue and romanco are mingled to make as exciting ;i plot as could bo desired, Grace Bradley is the leading actress. A film whose Ray atmosphere should prove popular, " Don't Get Personal " boasts a cast including Sally Eilers, Pinky Tomlin and James Dunn. The dialogue is exceptionally smart, and there are gay tunes introduced by Tomlin. Much of the action takes placo in a decrepit motor-car, which forms the only asset of two young men. Meeting with the heroino they airily undertake to convey her to her home town. There is a pleasing romantic climax. CIVIC THEATRE Entrancing singing and acting by Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire colour the musical film "Follow tho Fleet," at the Civic Theatre. This picture is in no way inferior to "Top Hat," "Tho Gay Divorcee" and "Roberta," which is'high praise indeed. Irving Berlin's songs are gay and tuneful and the danco settings and movements are polished and original. "THE LADY CONSENTS" Two players whose work in "The Flame "Within." laid the foundation for a promising screen partnership, Herbert Marshall and Ann Harding, appear together in "Tho Lady Consents," tho next attraction at tho Civic Theatre. Excellent as an emotional actress, Miss Harding has also a knack of handling a lighter role deftly and easily, and the nature of the plot in "The Lady Consents" should suit her admirably." Herbert Marshall can always bo depended upon for a good performance. REGENT THEATRE Arthur Tracy, famous throughout America as the "Street Singer," makes his screen debut in "Street Singer's Serenade," at the Regent Theatre. The ■ film is an English one and deals with the lives of two aspirants to the English stage. One, a chorus singer Avith few prospects, discovers a singer of rare ability just when lior company threatens to fail lor want of a leader. The two are mutually attracted, but success takes him beyond her reach when he commences a tour of the 'Continent. Meanwhile she rises to the top of her profession and on his return they take part in a rousing climax. " THE BIG BROADCAST" A picture which bids fair to surpass all previous musical productions, ' The Big Broadcast," will commence at the Regent Theatre 011 Friday. Entertainment in all its various forms is combined in this film—dancing, singing, humour and spectacle of a wide variety. A selection of-foremost artists has been made, so that each item will be presented in the best possible manner. ST. JAMES' THEATRE Remarkable photography is an outstanding feature of "Mutiny on the Bounty, at St. James' Theatre. The voyage of the Bounty into the Pacific has given opportunities for photographic effects of the sea in all its changing forms, of the eficct of sunrise and sunset at sea, of the beauty of Tahiti, and of the dramatic turn of events which befel ship and crew. Clark Gable, Charles Laughton and Franchot Tone arc the principals. PLAZA THEATRE Edward Everett Horton is the principal in "His Night Out," at the Plaza Theatre. Tho story is a well-tried one, that of a man who is told his life is to end in tho near future, and of his reaction to his sentence. Horton determines to enjoy M'hat time is left him on this earth and his way of doing so includes defying police, spending fabulous sums of money and generally upsetting all established convCn-. tions.

"MY MARRIAGE" An original study of society in New York, "My Marriage," will open a season at the Plaza Theatre on Inday. The close connection between racketeering" and members of the iour hundred," the elite of New.York is shown, and the difficulties which a young girl encounters because of her father's dealings with "rackoteeis make an absorbing theme. Claire Trevor, in the leading part, shows acting ability of a high order. Kent laylor and Pauline Frederick assist her. NATIONAL THEATRE The dramatic events which take place daily around the gambling tables at Monte Carlo have been screened in a thrilling film, "The Man Who Broko the Bank at Monte Carlo," at the National Theatre. Ronald Colman and Joan Bennett are the principals. Sir Seymour Hicks appears in "Vintage Wine," tho second film. STRAND THEATRE To tho lover of English comedy "Squibs," at the Strand Theatre, should prove very satisfying. The story is ono which could not fail to amuse however treated, and when handled by such players as Betty Balfour, Gordon Harker and Stanley Holloway it becomes first-class entertainment. "Kentucky Minstrels" is on the same high plane. Music and dancing are used to enliven an already gay story, and there is a cast including Nina Mao McKinney, Harry Scott and Eddio Whaley. STATE THEATRE A musical production of quality, "Broadway Melody of 1936," is attracting large audiences to the State Theatre. The film introduces the world's finest feminine tap-dancer, Kleanor Powell, and Robert Taylor and Jack Benny also appear. TUDOR CINEMA Deeds of daring and chivalry are filmed with striking effect in " Tho Three Musketeers," the tale by Dumas, which is being shown at the Tudor Cinema. Walter Abel, Paul Lukas and Margot Grahame are the principals. STAR CINEMA Delightful entertainment is provided in " It Happened One Night," the main picture at the Star Cinema. Clark Gable and Claudette Colbert act charmingly together. " Lady for a Day," featuring May Robson, is a second item. CAPITOL THEATRE Ginger Rogers, Fred Astaire and Irene Dunne combine to make a great success of the musical romance, " Roberta," at tho Capitol Theatre. " We're in the Money " is tho second film. \ EMBASSY THEATRE " Rose oi tho Rancho," featuring Gladys Swartliout and John Boles, will have its final presentations at the Embassy Theatre to-day. LONDON CINEMA A well-balanced cast which includes such artists as Frederic March, George Raft and Miriam Hopkins, interprets "All of Me," at the London Cinema.

MAJESTIC THEATRE It would be a misrepresentation of the truth to assume that "Crime and Punishment," at the Majestic Theatre, .was in any way morbid or depressing. The story by Dostoievsky, on the contrary, extols tho human emotions of love, liopo and courage. Dostoievsky's insight is nowhere better revealed than in this work, and his study of the man driven by force of circumstance into murder and of tho detective set on his trail is a masterly one. Edward Arnold, Peter Lorre and Marian Marsh are tho outstanding players. RIALTO THEATRE Will Kogers gives an appealing perform a nee in "Judge Priest," which is tho main item of entertainment at the Rialto Theatre. Rogers' whimsical humour is given free rein, and a cast of unusual ability supports bun. Call it Luck" is a further attraction. CRYSTAL PALACE THEATRE Noel Coward's brilliant drama "Ihe Scoundrel" heads the programme at the Crystal Pala o Theatre. Noel Coward takes the name part and Julie Haydon is his leading lady. "J wo in the Dmk completes the programme.
