NEW SCHOOL AT TAIPUHA
OPENING BY MR. COATES [by telegraph—OWN correspondent] WHANGAREI, Tuesday The new school building at Taipuha was officially opened by the lit. Hon. J. G. Coates yesterday afternoon, in the presence of a large gathering of settlors-. The Hon. P. Kraser, Minister of Education, telegraphed apologising for his inability to attend, and wishing the school every success. The chairman of the School Committee, Mr. 11. McCarroll, said that in 1927 a school was started in the Taipuha Hall, with nine pupils, but in 1933 it was found that a proper school was necessary, and the present building was the result of the interest taken by Mr. Coates in the matter. In performing the opening, Mr. Coates said that few areas in the North had increased the school attendance from nine to 130 pupils in such a short period. Commemorative trees were planted by Mr and Mrs. Coates, Messrs. McCarroll, and the teacher in charge, Mr. C. Butterworth.
