AERODROME MASCOT
BLACK CAT AT GISBORNE WELL-KNOWN TO TRAVELLERS A black cat is the mascot of the East Coast Airways staff at the Darfield aerodrome, Gisborne, and is well known to air travellers. It is now thoroughly used to aeroplanes and as soon as the machines arrive each morning and afternoon it jumps insido and makes a tour of inspection. More often than not the cat is to be seen perched in the cockpit with its paws on the control wheel, or, on sunny days, up on the nose of the machine. Recently it commenced climbing on the hoods of cars which visited the aerodrome, only to be discovered when the car had reached its garage. It was rescued from the top of a petroltank waggon last week, after riding serenely on top of the tank from the aerodrome to the town. The staff has now had made for the cat a collar which bears in silver letters the name of the company.
