CROSSING DANGERS

POSITION AT WESTFI ELD SIGNALS DEEMED INADEQUATE A decision to request that improved warning devices be provided at the railway crossing at the Westfield freezing works was reached on Monday night by the Otahuhu Borough Council. Mr. H. C'. Littler raised the matter in consequence of the accident which occurred at the crossing on Saturday. He said he had witnessed several narrow escapes. ."I think the practice of having a man walk on the road with ! a red flag is not sufficient, as the signaller does not always precede the engine," he added. Mr. J. J. Graham said the flashing lights were too close to the crossing. He suggested they be moved at least ;» chain farther down the road on each Bide of the crossing. It was to make representations to the Westfield Freezing Company, Limited, which had exclusive use !and control of the crossing.
