MILK ROUNDSMEN

STEPS FOR NEW AWARD FRESH PROCEEDINGS PENDING A meeting of the Auckland Milk I'oundsmen's Union was held yesterday afternoon to consider the offers of vendors at the Conciliation Council meeting last week, when a complete agreement for a new award was not reached. After exhaustive discussion it was decided to enter on further Conciliation Council proceedings on the basis of agreeing to refer the question of the six-day week, one of the chief points at issue, to the Arbitration Court for settlement if necessary. The meeting would not agree, however, to arbitrate on the question of a reduction in commission payable to roundsmen on loose milk delivered in excess of a specified quantity. The secretary, Mr. J. Purtell. was instructed to approach the employers and the Milk Council at once, with a view to instituting fresh Conciliation Council proceedings, as the existing award lapsed last week.
