HOUSEHOLD HINTS

A ham is greatly, improved if, after being boiled, it is wrapped in buttered paper and baked lor an hour. To turn a jelly out of a mould without breaking it, try rubbing a little olive-oil on the shape before pouring in the jelly. If cold baked potatoes are dipped for a moment in hot water and then placed in a moderate oven till warmed through they are quite as "nice as if freshly baked. It is not generally known that eggs covered with boiling water, and allowed to stand for fite minutes, are more nourishing than eggs placed in boiling water and allowed to boil furiously for three and a-half. minutes. Before washing a jersey with buttonholes, sew up the btittonholes before putting the garment in water. Treated so, they keep in shape, and the shrunken look so often seen is avoided. For cleaning and whitening tho hands, nothing is better than lemon juice. If used immediately the accident occurs, it will take ink-stains out of linen without iron-mould resulting. Squeeze the juice on to the ink spot and pour boiling water over it just as one would in using salts of lemon. An excellent way of cleaning glass decantors and bottles is as follows: — Into each vessel ppt about two tablespoonfuls of fine sawdust or bran. Then fill to about a third of its capacity with water. Put in tho stopper and, holding the bottle horizontally, begin to revolve with the hands. Do this for a few minutes, and then examine the bottle. Probably the sides will bo bright and clean, but in any case a second treatment, using a fresh lot of sawdust, will right matters.
