SHORTER WORKING HOURS
Sir, —In the abstract of statistics for .January the index figure given for volume of production per head for the year 1034-35 is 976, while that for the year ]9OO-01 is given in the 1935 Year Book as 10:32. This shows, as 1 said, a fall of 5.4 per cent. The statement of " W.C'.K. " that the exchange value of our exports has risen by " hundreds per cent " since 1900 is, of course, pure nonsense. Since 1929 the exchange value of our exports has fallen calamitously, and thus our position is far worse than the production figures indicate. J. Johnstone. Manurewa.
